The catalog allows users to quickly filter their results using the following variables:
The format refers to the material's type. E.g. book, ebook, audiovisual, music score, microfiche, etc.
New titles will alow users to limit to items recently added to the catalog. This includes books that have recently been purchases or are currently in processing.
Materials may be a part of a larger series of materials, such as "New York Times Bestsellers"
The collection refers to the physical location of the item within the library, but also is descriptive of the materials content or format. For example, there is an AudioVisual collection AND format because all of Hackney Library's audiovisual materials are in the same location. Most materials will be located in the General Collection.
Rather than limit by when the book was aquired, you can limit by when the book was published. A good way to find only historic or new materials.
You can also filter out unwanted subjects, which can be useful when searching for ambiguous terms. For example, "Shakespeare" would provided the subjects of "William Shakespeare" (the person), Criticism and Interpretation, History, Stage History, etc
