This site, now a blog, offers information on novels set in the Tar Heel State, including recently published novels from the full range of publishing houses, and even self-published novels, as well as information on older novels set in North Carolina across the decades. All the novels listed on the site are available in the North Carolina Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For many, but not all, of the titles the North Carolina Collection has copies that can circulate to individuals and other libraries. The novels are searchable by author, by county, by genre, by region, by series, by fictional place, by electronic format, and by year of publication.
This site from MetaMetrics helps match first- through twelfth-grade readers with texts at appropriate reading levels to, as the site says, "find the right book for you," using lexile levels (a standard scale for matching readers with texts). If you know the child's/student's lexile level, in Step 1 you can enter the lexile level and click the green submit button to move forward. If you don't know the lexile level, use the site's "I don't know my lexile measure" section to first choose grade level, then level of current difficulty, and then click the green submit button to give an approximate lexile score. Step 2 in both cases involves choosing subjects/genres of interest and clicking the green submit button. What follows is a list of books in the identified lexile range on the topic(s) chosen.
