Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests Overview
What Are the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests?
Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) Tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. These tests were designed to provide comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs.

Who Takes the Tests and Why?
Colleges and universities may use the Praxis Core tests to evaluate individuals for entry into teacher education programs. The assessments are generally taken early in your college career. Many states also require Praxis Core scores as part of their teacher licensing process.
Overview of North Carolina Testing Requirements
Important Information
If you test in North Carolina, your score report will be sent automatically to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. If you test outside of North Carolina, select the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (state code 7846) as a score recipient when you register or on an additional score report request.
As of the 2014–15 testing year, ETS discontinued paper-delivered testing. However, Praxis® tests will continue to be available in a paper-delivered format as required for ADA accommodations. All scores for previously administered paper-delivered tests are reportable for 10 years from the date the test was taken.

Who Must Take the Tests?
Teacher candidates or those wishing to become certified must take The Praxis Series® tests.

Prior to entering an educator preparation program at your college or university, you may be required to take the Core tests to demonstrate your qualifications. However, individuals with a total SAT® score of 1100 (Verbal and Quantitative only) are exempt from Core testing requirements for an educator preparation program administration.

Individuals with a total SAT score of less than 1100 (Verbal and Quantitative only), but a score of at least 550 on the Verbal test, are exempt from the Core tests in Reading and Writing for educator preparation program admission.
Individuals with a total SAT score of less than 1100 (Verbal and Quantitative only), but a score of at least 550 on the Math test, are exempt from the Core test in Mathematics for educator preparation program admission.
Likewise, individuals with a composite ACT® score of 24 are exempt from Core testing requirements for educator preparation program admission.

Individuals with a composite ACT score of less than 24, but with a score of at least 24 on the English test, are exempt from the Core tests in Reading and Writing for educator preparation program admission.
Individuals with a composite ACT score of less than 24, but a score of at least 24 on the Math test, are exempt from the Core test in Mathematics for educator preparation program admission.
