A-Z Resource List

This guide contains a full list of resources organized by name.

Searching One-Search From the Library's Home Page

Once you are on the library's home page, look for the "One-Search" (also called Summon) link (circled in red in the screen shot below), and click on it.  When you have done so, you will see a search box, where you can type in your search (circled in red--our example search is for "animal rights."

Once you have typed in your search on the library home page and hit "enter," you will leave the library home page and be taken into the One-Search results page.

The following screen shot shows the millions (!) of results in One-Search for the "animal rights" topic.  Note the items circled in red in the sidebar in the following screen shot:

  • The number of results is circled in red under the search bar (4,892,687 items--remember we said the number of items retrieved could be very high?!)
  • The REFINE YOUR SEARCH options in the left sidebar that help you filter your results in several ways
  • The CONTENT TYPE options for filtering your results by type of information source
  • The More... link, that allows you to see even more content type options (we'll see it in action in a minute).

Now that you've seen how large your results set can be when using One-Search, let's go further to see how you can refine your search using "facets" (filters or limits) to weed out things you don't want or need.  We'll go now to Step 3 in the left sidebar or at the bottom right.
